Welcome to the Suffolk Coast!

The area around Aldeburgh and Thorpeness offers a great selection of self-catering cottages and holiday homes. The Holiday Rentals available on our site are all privately owned, well equipped and furnished to a high standard. The Suffolk Heritage Coast well deserves its status as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers a wealth of attractions for those looking for either a short break or a longer, more relaxed stay.

Only a short journey from London, but like another world where the cares of city life just fade away! Walking, sailing, cycling, and bird watching are just some of the pastimes available close by. Local towns and villages worth visiting include Thorpeness, Aldeburgh, Snape, Minsmere, Orford, Dunwich Walberswick and Southwold, or if you prefer you can just stay put and relax.

Thorpeness and Aldeburgh

Thorpeness was created by local landowner Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie in the early 1900s as a vacation resort for wealthy Edwardian holidaymakers. It was Ogilvie who had the vision to create the 64 acre Meare, a shallow boating lake dug by hand and still much enjoyed today. The village also boasts a Golf Course, Tennis Club, Village Shop, Inn and Café. The beach here is mainly shingle with some sand as you walk towards Sizewell.

Aldeburgh has been a fashionable holiday destination for many years and has very good range of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, and pubs which serve the famous Adnam’s Ales. It also boasts a good golf course, cinema, and probably the best Fish and Chips in England! At the far end of the town next to the Martello Tower is the Aldeburgh Sailing Club.

About Us

We are Philip and Sarah Dawes, we bought Coxswains Cottage, Thorpeness in 2006. Until the 1970’s it had been owned by a local family and some visitors still remember it as the village sweet shop with jars of confectionary stacked up on the stairs! In 2007 we bought the house next door and the two cottages became one. The original layout was largely retained with two staircases each leading up to their own bedroom and bathroom.  The kitchens were combined to provide a kitchen & dining area which connect one side of the house to the other.

We are a small agency, providing a link between owners and their guests. Each of our houses is a second home reflecting the styles and tastes of its owner, whilst maintaining a high standard of comfort and personality that is sometimes lost with holiday rental properties today.
